Looking Back…Pressing On
We are preparing to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Lighthouse
Baptist Church next month. As we look back over the years,
it is a bittersweet reflection. Our database of names in categories
of adult, teen, and children exceeds 800. What a thought to
think that many people have walked through the doors and heard
the gospel! It is amazing to think that we have been able to
learn enough of this difficult language to communicate the
message of salvation and also to have friendships and share
fun times with so many. However, when you count those that
have been saved, baptized, and faithful to the work; the numbers
quickly decrease. It is difficult to realize that many do not
desire to know the Savior. They do not want to face the decision
about eternity. Some just cannot break tradition or go against
family no matter how much they would like to.
In the past year, we have seen some of the adult ladies begin
to help in our children's Bible club, and the choir has grown.
Many of the adults now are signing up to clean the church.
They have invited friends to church. They are participating
in faith promise missions giving. Several of our teens have
started attending worship service and participating in service
ministries in youth group. We are so thankful for this growth.
Still, at the same time, we have a baby church and young Christians.
We are often saddened and frustrated when the workers don't
show up and fail to give proper notice so other plans can be
made. We are disheartened when teens who want to be baptized
and serve in the church are forbidden by their parents. We
are brokenhearted when a new Christian decides that the charismatic
church down the road holds more excitement for them. And we
are devastated when some decide that they cannot accept Christ
and say they will not come back.
Looking back is a good thing. If we were to count the blessings
one by one, we would add pages to this letter. However, this
small church is still not able to stand on its own. They continue
to need constant care and teaching. At times we are tired both
mentally and physically, but also know that Christ is the Head,
not us. We must seek His power and guidance. Please join us
in prayer that over the next few years, this baby church will
grow up to be a true LIGHTHOUSE in our community.
For
souls,
