White As Snow

Thank you for praying for our winter youth camp. More than seventy teens and workers enjoyed three days of games, food, fellowship and preaching. Our camp was situated in a scenic valley that provided a much welcomed change from the noisy concrete urban jungle of Taichung city. Despite the fact it only snows in the highest mountains in Taiwan and most have never experienced snow, we chose “White As Snow” as the theme with each message based on one of these Bible passages.

The teens were challenged with facing sin in their lives and living a holy life to please the Lord. Several teens including some from Lighthouse and Faith Baptist Church came forward surrendering there lives to serve the Lord and one teenager also accepted Christ as Savior. We hope this will also be an encouragement to these teens and that this will also give a boost to our summer camp.  (Editor's note: click any photo for a closer look and use your browser's back button to return.)

Lighthouse Baptist Institute

To better equip our people, we decided to begin a Bible institute. After a few weeks of promotion, eleven registered for the New Testament Survey course and ten actually attended the opening classes. We are excited about this opportunity to further prepare our people and ask you to pray that these students will stay consistent throughout this course and will desire to serve the Lord.

Upside of the Downturn

In our last letter we asked you to pray for the building situation at Lighthouse because time was rapidly drawing near for us to move to a new building. When our landlord first informed us he wanted to sell, we began praying and patiently looking but there was not much in the area that was affordable and suitable. Then the economic downturn hit and the ripple finally reached Taiwan. With the contract nearing its end, we made a final call to the landlord and he said he was willing to renew because it wasn’t a good time to sell. Please continue praying because we haven’t formally signed the contract yet, but it does appear that the Lord will allow this church to continue in its present location.

Another area of upturn has been at Faith Baptist Church’s Chinese service where we have seen several visitors in the past month. This has been an encouragement, but we know that much more needs to be done to keep this church going in the right direction. We hope that with each update we can continue to bring good reports.

Thank you for remaining faithful in these dark days. Your commitment is making a spiritual difference in the lives of people in Taiwan and around the world!

For souls,

 Andy & Lisa Simpson
