SALMON’S MINSTRIES
IN THAILAND NEWS UPDATE - May 2010
In 19 years of serving the Lord in Thailand and living mostly in Bangkok area, the last 2 weeks have definitely been the most concerning in areas of personal safety and safety of our church members.

RICKY, TAMMY SHANE AND DUSTY

The problems with Red Shirt protesters has consistently escalated over the last few months. With rallies of 1 million people coming from all over Thailand joining together to request a new election for prime minister.
Last week one of the very prominent leaders of the Red Shirt Group was shot and killed which only added to the resolve of the group to increase efforts to win this battle.
They began marking “their territory with burning tires and bunkers in downtown Bangkok.
The government repeatedly requested for all women and children to be taken from the area and 4,000 military troops were brought in to Bangkok to secure the situa-tion.
Many difficult decisions had to be made as the civilians were not ready to leave their homes behind so the “war zone” was located right down town in the midst of the most prominent shopping areas in Bangkok. The financial losses cannot even be esti-mated at this point.

From a ministry outlook, we are sure that God has a reason for all things and they all work together for good. In the past 2 weeks we have passed out over 1,000 flyers an-nouncing a free intensive English Course May 16-22. We started as usual on the 16th and had 32 new English students that were very excited about studying. We were very excited about sharing the gospel with them. Due to the present curfews and un-stable situations we finally decided to postpone and begin again June 1-5th. Please pray that we will see life changing decisions made during this time!

This 7-11 was bombed shortly after Red Leaders surrendered, and attacks began on 27 buildings throughout Bangkok. At the same time all public transporation suspended, and curfew announced. The streets were chaotic! This was on the same street only half a mile away from our church and home.

Tammy had the experience of seeing the special forces “sharp shooter” (snipers) up close last Friday as she was driving in-credibly slow on her way to the airport. Last Friday I left Chiang Rai after teaching a special class to young preachers. The day progressively got more violent in Bangkok and by 6:00 p.m. the traffic was nearly at a standstill on the expressway. Four thousand soldiers were moving in, exits were all closed off and snipers had their high powered rifles aimed in all different directions on many of the bridges she had to drive over to reach the airport. Praise the Lord for His protection at all times!!
