Dear Friends,
Janice and I send you greetings from Jakarta. We trust you folks are all dong fine. Also, we do want you folks to realize how much we appreciate your prayers for the work here in Indonesia. You faithfulness in praying for the ministry here always makes a difference. Thank you for your thoughtfulness toward us.
Yesterday, Brother Jim Daley and I signed a contract with the Indonesian Bible Society to start printing the first 5,000 Bibles that we plan to distribute to all the junior high students on the island of Nias. We will need a total of 20,000 Bibles, so this is just the first step in getting all the Bibles that will be needed. Brother Daley has raised about $9,000 and I have a bit over $5,000 so we decided to go ahead and start having the Bibles printed. We had to give the Bible Society $3,750 to get the project started. We will have to pay $7,500 by the 25th of November and then make the final payment of $3,750 when the first 5,000 Bibles are finished the 25th of January 2008. To the right is an example of the front cover.
Lord willing on the 25th of the next three months, we will renew the contract and order another 5,000 Bibles. The math works out so that we will need to pay:
$11,250 on the 25th of November 2007
$11,250 on the 25th of December 2007
$15,000 on the 25th of January 2008
$11,250 on the 25th of February 2008
$3,750 on the 25th of March 2008
$3,750 on the 25th of April 2008.
So far several of my churches have responded to this project. It is our desire that this project can be an opportunity for all our churches to have a part in getting these Bibles into the hands of the junior high students on the island of Nias. Below I quote from a couple of the emails that I have received.
Greetings from Riverside Baptist Church. Just a short note to tell you what our Youth Department has done. Last week was Round-Up Sunday and they did a booth decked out Indonesian style. They really did a great job and in the process raised $515 for your Bible project for the juniors highers on Nias Island. The check was mailed today for credit to your account. We hope this offering will be a blessing to you as much as it is to our teens. … Dr. Russell Gordon, Pastor
My name is Ethel and I am a helper in Mrs. Penny's class of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at Temple Baptist Church. As a class, we chose your missions letter dated July 17th, 2007 because we have an interest helping those who do not have a Bible. We have read a story about a child who waited 9 years for her very own Bible. In the states, many have more then one Bible and some take for granted the precious word of God. We are so blessed to learn that you are working toward helping those whose desire is above all to own their own Bible. The children in our class have started a fund for you. A 5 gallon water jug was brought to class and the students have begun to contribute to your efforts. $22.00 was collected on the first week. E. Brueggeman
Folks, please continue to pray for the Nias Bible project, and please have a part in getting these Bibles printed, and into the hands of the junior high students on the island of Nias.
Janice and I will be taking a short vacation to spend Christmas with out children in the States. We will leave Jakarta after this semester is finished at the Bible School and then returning the last of January. We will be in the New England area during our time in the States.
For your faithful prayers and financial support we are thankful.
In Christ,
